THE TEACHER

Kecia is the founder of the Run to Win with Kiojah and Lee Teaching Initiative, which was established to help parents and teachers use her books for Christian discipleship and to share with elementary aged children the good news of Jesus in practical ways that preteens can understand. The teaching initiative uses scriptures to help children gain God’s perspective on some of the decisions and experiences of characters in the Kiojah and Lee Book Series.

The 1st Fives Curriculum

As a reading teacher, writing coach, media specialist, and athletic coach in elementary, middle, and high schools Kecia’s goal has been to help students be strong from the inside out.

“At some point in their lives children will face a challenge or struggle that will affect them emotionally, socially, or even physically with their health. I want them to know that God’s love for them endures so that they have the courage and faith to keep going.”  -Kecia

The idea for the Run to Win with Kiojah and Lee Initiative comes from 1 Corinthians 9:24: “Isn’t it obvious that all runners on the racetrack keep on running to win, but only one receives the victor’s prize? Yet each one of you must run the race to be victorious.”

“I want to show children that their lives are like races. Every day they are free to make decisions—and, by God’s grace, wise decisions—when they are at home, at school, or with their friends. That’s how they can become all that God created them to be. That’s what I call running to win.” - Kecia

Through this initiative she has published The 1st Fives Curriculum: Don’t Bring Me Bad News and the The 1st Fives Coloring Book: Don’t Bring Me Bad News as supplemental tools to accompany Book 1 of the series.
